Old Shanghai hands now often refer to things in the city as ‘pre-Expo’ or ’since the Expo’. Pre-Expo, if you wanted the unique package of piquant Yunnanese dishes and a sultry sip n’ sup spot, you’d have to head out west to Lost Heaven in Shanghai’s Xuhui district. Since the Expo, they’ve opened a four-storey flagship on the Bund, so you can pop in after sightseeing along the expanded walkway (another ’since the Expo’ plus, huzzah!) or post-retail if you’ve been following LUXE Shanghai’s Shopping Itinerary for the Bund.

Aside from a dining room on the second floor for chowing down on their signature combination of Yunnanese, Tibetan, Burmese, ethnic Chinese and northern Thai spices, you can imbibe over the third and fourth floors, which both have velvety, folk-lush lounges bursting with Shangri-La inspired accents. The third floor also stretches out onto a commodious terrace for styley alfresco sips, complete with bamboo, wood carvings and soft, low lit centrepieces inspired by Tibetan worshipping candles.

Kick back with something from their Mar-tea-ni selection, such as the Pure-tea-ni, a Pu-er tea infused martini, designed to cleanse [ed. detox and retox, 2-in-1. That's Asian efficacy], or the cinnamon-doused Volcano of Heaven, served flaming and in a bowl, to share with two of your spice-loving friends while you soak in the Shang skyline.

More? You’re insatiable. There are performers from the Yi minority presenting traditional songs, as well as eclectic-meets-urban tracks spun by the DJ. On the ground floor there’s even a lifestyle store that stocks colourful, intricately crafted goods inspired by Chinese ethnic minorities. Sip, sup and shop? Now that’s what we call triple happiness.
